HOT ROD SURF Build UP! Part III 2-27-08
The next step of our HOT ROD SURF build is to start functionally finishing all of the different elements of the hot rod making sure everything is a step closer to being ready to rock the road. Transmission, brake, and battery lines are measured, cut, and mounted, installation of a custom windshield is fabricated and mounted, the front end is disassembled and fit with rebuilt wheel cylinders, the wheel bearings are freshly packed, a steering arm is added with arm reshaping, custom center link fabrication, finishing the floor substructure with tapping and threading of mounting bolts, mounting of a fuel pump, the addition of fresh oil and filter for the engine with a high out put ignition module for the distributor, and a transmission service, filter, and fluid are all part of this stage of our build. During a hot rod build there are what seems to be an endless amount of smaller projects that go into the full build. Making custom windshield posts or custom built upper radiator supports are design oriented and labor intensive and add up to a what makes a hot rod HOT and differentiates real hot rods from cooky cutter kit cars. Blood, sweat, grinding, welding, design, money (welding supplies, grinding discs, metal, gloves, and parts and more parts add up quickly) and engineering are all a part of building a fully functional hot rod.
