ROD SURF NEWS UPDATE What’s Going On? Computer Kooks! What is going on with people over the computer? Every once in a while some one takes the time to communicate in regards to our website and business with a delusional view of reality. Here is an example of one of these KOOKY emails ( for those of you who aren’t up on your surf lingo a ‘KOOK’ is some one whose mind doesn’t meet up with reality- a kook is just plain lame. For bikers it’s the guy showing up at a Harley event with a Kawasaki or for a traditional hot rodder it’s the guy going to a traditional hot rod show with independent front suspension and a fiberglass body or better yet a ‘really cool’ custom ‘lead sled’ Toyota).
screw yourself it's free. -hotrodsurf Hot Rod Surf is enjoying our 10 year anniversary and has developed a unique style and vast array of products for our customers to enjoy. If you don’t like HOT ROD SURF Do NOT look at our site and DO NOT visit our store. One of the many reasons that traditional hot rods aren’t every where is a odd sort of cheapness that has crept into some peoples minds. I am currently working on our How to Build a Ford Hot Rod Book and here is a sneak preview of the commentary on the state of affairs: “I do understand that we are a shop and often have access to a wider variety of venues to amass parts. I have included a price range for what is acceptable for listed hot rod parts in southern California. Some times the lower end used parts don’t work and have to be replaced or bought twice. If you end up somewhere in between the two prices for a useable part you have done well. It will become apparent that 95% of project cars and running hot rods are sold below ‘parts and build’ cost and that the owner does not in fact actually know the amount of money and time that was spent putting the car together. The price listings will help you dissect what you are getting from a running hot rod or partial hot rod project. Many hot rod projects were stated with good intentions and came to a slow winding halt when reality hits the home builder. We do not want this to happen to you. So look around for some of these partial projects which you can score on! Remember to have respect for the person selling the parts, because they are rare. If you are given a good price don’t try and haggle. You are looking at real hot rod parts which are not a dime a dozen and chances are you will insult the seller with haggling. If you insult a fair seller with a low offer, or demand, most often you will be told to ‘beat it’ and ‘kick rocks.’ Do not expect any serious shop specializing in traditional hot rod parts to sell you anything on the lower price end. Shops have overhead and expenses and should charge more than they currently are. The ‘cheapness’ of hot rodders in many ways hurts the growth and fun of the hot rodding culture. Every major city has plenty of chopper shops but maybe one hot rod shop if they are lucky. This situation is in large part due to the delusional prices the home builder thinks he is going to build his hot rod for. Sit at a coffee shop in any major city on a busy street and count how many traditional hot rods go by compared to Harleys. It’s really a shame. What do I really care? I really don’t. I have both and enjoy both lifestyles. But I have noticed the better educated motorcycle enthusiast enjoying more road time and numbers vs. an often delusional no ‘hot rod’ hot rodder. Be real and be suspicious of anyone who is bent on building a traditional hot rod for a cheap price. Feel good about investing time and money in something you love. Be realistic and respectful, and before you know it you will have your own hot rod tearing up the town! The thrill is priceless!” Excerpt from
